Yahoo! Search And The Phone Book From BT 'Go Local'

Deal creates an improved local search for UK consumers, visit www.yahoo.co.uk/local

Yahoo! Search and The Phone Book from BT, have announced a deal to provide local business search for UK customers. From July 26, anyone searching for a local business on the Yahoo! Local UK search engine - from a butcher in Brighton, to a florist in Falmouth - will receive classified business listings provided by The Phone Book from BT.

According to Stephen Taylor, RVP and MD, Search and Search Marketing, Yahoo! Europe, "This joint initiative will deliver a number of important benefits for both consumers looking for local products and services and businesses who advertise within The Phone Book's Classified Directory and online with Yahoo! Search Marketing. In essence, Yahoo! Local will provide people with a much more powerful way of finding local information quickly."

Bruce Abercromby, general manager for Online Services at BT Directories, believes the benefits to The Phone Book's business advertisers are also clear, "For the 120,000 businesses who advertise within The Phone Book's Classified Directory, it provides another channel for their new and existing customers to find them at no extra cost.

It also potentially gives these businesses an increased visibility to an additional 13 million people who visit Yahoo! each month. We are constantly striving to find new ways to generate new business leads for our customers through emerging technologies and through interactive agreements such as this."

Yahoo! Local will provide an additional benefit to advertisers on the Yahoo! Search Marketing network, allowing them to target customers interested in a specific local area and present offers and business details to them. Two sponsored search results will appear at the top and two results at the bottom of the search results page.
