Why did Tenneco Automotive change its name to Tenneco Inc. in October 2005?
There is an increasing demand for Tenneco's products, technologies and capabilities in markets outside of automotive (heavy duty, two wheel and off-highway).
With new customers and opportunities in our commercial vehicle
business, along with our recent acquisition of Gabilan Manufacturing, Inc. (the exclusive exhaust supplier for Harley Davidson motorcycles), commercial and specialty markets have become a growing areas of focus for us. For this reason, we concluded it was no longer relevant to have "automotive" as the only market identified in the name of the company.
The company's stock will continue to trade on the NYSE under the
symbol TEN.
