RANDALL L. BYRD JOINS LYDALL, INC. AS PRESIDENT OF ITS NORTH AMERICAN AUTOMOTIVE BUSINESS

MANCHESTER, CT – October 18, 2005 – LYDALL, INC. (NYSE: LDL) – Lydall, Inc. today announced that Randall L. Byrd has joined the Company as President of its North American automotive business. Byrd, who will be based in Detroit at Lydall's Sales and Technical Center, will be directly responsible for the Detroit operations as well as the Company's U.S. manufacturing facilities.

Byrd comes to Lydall with over 25 years of experience in the automotive industry. Prior to joining Lydall, he was Chief Operating Officer for Formed Fiber Technologies, an automotive interior soft-trim supplier. Before that, he was with Lear Corporation, holding several positions, including Vice President, Flooring, Acoustics and Overhead Systems, Vice President, Interior Systems Division – Europe, based in Munich, Germany, and Vice President, Operations, Interior Systems Division.

Byrd holds a MBA degree from Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business Administration, University of Virginia and a BSME degree from Kettering University, formerly General Motors Institute.
