100,000 JOBS MISSION HIRES MORE THAN 28,000 VETERANS

100,000 Jobs Mission reports 3rd Quarter Number up Nearly 10,000 Hires

ATLANTA, October 11, 2012 — The 76 companies in the 100,000 Jobs Mission have hired 28,186 veterans through the third quarter of 2012, they announced today. This number is up nearly 10,000 from the 18,249 veterans hired through June 30, 2012.


Launched in early 2011, the grassroots coalition of private-sector companies is already one-quarter of the way to its goal of hiring at least 100,000 veterans by 2020.  Formed by JPMorgan Chase and 10 other companies, the mission has grown to 76 companies, which met this week at Delta Air Lines headquarters in Atlanta for a quarterly coalition meeting.


“The 100,000 Jobs Mission is really gaining momentum,” said Eddie Dunn, an Army combat veteran and an executive on the Military and Veterans Affairs team at JPMorgan Chase. “The United States has the best military in the world – and the companies in our coalition are fortunate to have already hired over 28,000 veterans through our initiative.”


The pool of veterans is expected to grow dramatically as nearly 1 million servicemembers transition out of the military by 2016.  And the unemployment rate for veterans remains above the national average.

 
“We will continue working hard to provide job and training opportunities to our nation’s veterans – and sharing best practices with each other,” said Letty Ashworth, General Manager of Global Diversity at Delta. “Not only is hiring veterans the right thing to do, it’s good for business.”
