New York, July 14, 2011 - JPMorgan Chase announced today that it will support an effort to make the 10 -year anniversary of 9/11 the largest single day of volunteer service in the nation's history. The New York-based bank will contribute $500,000 to the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance and it will encourage its employees to participate in volunteer activities across the nation on 9/11.
The 9/11 Day observance is about turning tragedy into triumph. In 2001, Americans were asked to never forget the attacks of September 11 and now, ten years later, this initiative will inspire Americans to honor the victims of the tragedy, their families and America's servicemen and women by voluntarily engaging in charity, service or other good deeds in observance on this day. The 9/11 Day observance will support volunteer opportunities in 24 cities across the nation on September 11, 2011 as well as many other programs. More information can be found at www.911day.org.
The 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance project aligns with JPMorgan Chase's approach to community engagement through employee volunteerism. In 2010, more than 31,000 JPMorgan Chase employees devoted nearly 275,000 hours of volunteer service through the firm's "Good Works" program. Employee engagement also resulted in an additional $4 million in grants to charities in 2010 through volunteer and matching gift programs within "Good Works."
The $500,000 donation to the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance is part of JPMorgan Chase's annual commitment to local communities, and non-profit organizations that totals more than $150 million.
