(NYSE:DDS) announced today that sales for the five weeks ended October 5, 2002 were $686,970,000 compared to sales for the five weeks ended October 6, 2001 of $727,800,000. Total sales decreased 6% for the five-week period. Sales in comparable stores decreased 5% for the period. Sales for the thirty-five weeks ended October 5, 2002 were $5,013,819,000 compared to sales for the thirty-five weeks ended October 6, 2001 of $5,096,545,000. Sales decreased 2% for the thirty-five-week period on both a total and comparable store basis.
