Airgas Introduces New FreezeRight IQF Cryogenic Freezer at the International Boston Seafood Show

Designed for Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) products, such as scallops and shrimp

RADNOR, PA - March 21, 2011 -- Airgas, Inc. (NYSE: ARG), the largest U.S. distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gases, announced today at the International Boston Seafood Show that it has launched a new design of cryogenic freezers for processors of Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) products. The Airgas FreezeRight™ IQF cryogenic tunnel freezer combines the company's bulk gas expertise with the company's experience in cryogenic equipment technologies to efficiently freeze IQF products.

The newest addition to the Airgas FreezeRight line of cryogenic freezers, the FreezeRight IQF, uses liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide to flash freeze food items. The FreezeRight IQF was specifically designed to meet seafood industry processing requirements for increased IQF production rates, reduced cryogen use, and more effective sanitation.

"IQF products such has scallops, shrimp, and other seafood are delicate and require special handling," said Greg Caniglia, Director - Engineering Solutions Group, Airgas Merchant Gases. "The FreezeRight IQF freezer was specifically designed to allow increased throughput, provide a quality IQF product, and use liquid cryogens much more efficiently. The new design also provides much easier cleaning through its top-lifting design, providing full access to the freezer belting for sanitation."

According to Caniglia, the standard Airgas FreezeRight IQF tunnel can process more than 5,000 pounds of IQF product per hour while using 30% to 60% less liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide when compared to conventional cryogenic methods.

The FreezeRight cryogenic freezer line was developed to compliment Airgas' complete systems approach to the food-freezing process. In order to provide the ultimate food freezing system, the Airgas approach takes into account the entire cryogenic freezing process, including the tank, piping, exhaust and an Airgas FreezeRight freezer.
